Tent of Meeting

After over a year of praying and seeking the Lord regarding his will, a vision for a simple ministry to our local churches has arisen in the hearts of several close friends: A centre for discipleship. A “fellowship of burning hearts” if you will. We were led to pray regarding a specific location; a farm. As a matter of course and by faith, we approached the owner who generously allowed us to use a portion of his 400+ acre farm. This truly was a work of God, because we were complete strangers to this man. Still, when we told him of our desire to glorify God and engage those who were hungering and thirsting for God-on that very first meeting- He said “I believe I will be held accountable for how I use my resources for God’s glory, you can start tomorrow if you want.”

With this open door we are erecting a prospector style canvas tent large enough for 6 people with a wood stove in it for the winter months. Its a beautiful secluded area of the farm overlooking water. Inspired by Moses’ example, we have called this place the Tent of Meeting. Moses would go outside the camp to a simple tent like this one where he would meet with God. The idea is simple. Invite ardent thirsting hearts to come away and press in to the heart of God over a weekend. We hesitate to call this a retreat, these weekends will be not “vacations.” Being a disciple costs. “The kingdom of God moves forcefully forward and forcefully men lay hold of it.” Each disciple takes hold of Christ on his own. Our goal is to shepherd these hearts on their individual journeys from simply being a friend of Jesus, to a true disciple. The process of being crucified with Christ is not tidy. Its serious business. There are many men who are standing “on the edge” and this “fellowship of burning hearts” will give them the confidence to dive in.

“Now, if you will stop here and ask yourself why you are not as pious as the primitive Christians were, your own heart will tell you that it is neither through ignorance nor inability, but purely because you never thoroughly intended it.”

-William Law
